Casio or fully Casio Computer Company is a Japanese electronics company. The company, founded in 1946, was originally known for its calculators, watches, computers, PDAs, synthesizers and cash registers. Since quite some time Casio also makes keyboards and for some years also good digital pianos.
Casio is an electronics manufacturer and started under the name Kashio Seishanso. The company was taken over from the father in 1946 by four brothers from the Kashio family. Casio's philosophy is to make products that save a lot of work and improve the quality of life. Casio was the first manufacturer in the world to produce large numbers of compact electronic calculators. It was invented by Toshio Kashio in 1957. In the same year, the company name was made more English.
In 1986 one of the first sampling keyboards (Sampletone SK-1) was made by Casio. This instrument had few musical possibilities because of the low quality sampling that was possible, but nevertheless got some cult status. It was revolutionary for the music world. The SK-1 was one of the first affordable keyboards that could record sounds and play them back on a small keyboard.
Nowadays Casio makes beautiful digital pianos that are very competitively priced, especially in price/quality. Even the top lines of Casio (AP-700, GP-300, GP-400 and GP-500) are made in collaboration with C. Bechstein.
